There seems to be a disconnect between the headline, the story, and the map... Is this actually showing how many concealed guns are in each county? Or is it showing the average number of people with a CPL in a county on a daily basis? Or is it just showing the number of people who live in the county and have a CPL to their name?

Wow, Just look at the places with the most guns. The Safest and the least crime.

What is the connection between average age in a given county and number of CC permits? Maybe explains number in UP?

Yay! This is awesome. At 4% the crime rates start trending downward. Much of Michigan is actually better protected than that!

I wonder how many gun related homicides where committed by people to licenses to carry a concealed gun? I wonder how many were committed by registered gun owners?
I wonder if Mr. Wilkinson is simply sharing information he happened across or does he have an agenda.

A look at the MI State Police Annual Concealed Carry (CPL) Reports will show you some data about what some CPL holders do with their handguns or do while carrying their handguns. http://www.michigan.gov/msp/0,4643,7-123-1878_1591_3503_4654-77621--,00....
The person who said that the areas with high CPL numbers are safer is not being realistic about the number of suicides which occur in those areas. That is the more significant measure of gun violence in those areas, not homicides.
