  • On Oct. 9, Bridge Michigan hosts our latest Culture Club event, discussing the book ‘Know the Mother’
  • Author and Detroit native Desiree Cooper will join us for the event
  • Participation in the event is free but requires registration

Bridge Culture Club resumes on Oct. 9 to discuss “Know the Mother,” a 2016 short story collection by Desiree Cooper, who will join us to discuss her book. This is our final Culture Club event of 2024, and you won’t want to miss it.

“Know the Mother” is a short story collection and part of the Made in Michigan Writers Series. In “Know the Mother,” Cooper explores the archetype of the mother in all of her incarnations. In a collage of stories, women find themselves wedged between their own goals and desires and their roles as daughters, sisters, grandmothers and wives. It was the winner of the Next Generation Indie Book Award in 2017.
