Bridge Culture Club returns to discuss 'Shadows Beyond the Pines’ book

- On June 11, Bridge Michigan hosts its latest Culture Club event, discussing the book ‘Shadows Beyond the Pines’
- Author Dianna Cross Toran will join the discussion
- Participation is free but requires registration
Bridge Culture Club returns from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. June 11 to discuss "Shadows Beyond the Pines", a book by author Dianna Cross Toran that recounts the heritage and achievements of Black families in Newaygo County.
"Shadows Beyond the Pines" is a true story about Ella and Marion Auther, who had a dream of starting a Black resort during segregation in Michigan. Their Woodland Park Resort was about 15 miles from the well-known Idlewild resort.
Through research and family narratives, Toran chronicles the generations of African-Americans who transformed Michigan and reveals how they established communities, built businesses and created cultural touchstones that continue to shape Michigan.
Please bring your lunch and join Bridge Culture Club on Zoom to discuss the book.
You'll have an opportunity to submit questions for Toran during the event, which will be moderated by Bridge Michigan fund development associate Jackie Garrett.
To receive an invitation and link to this virtual discussion, please complete the event registration form on Eventbrite.
