A task force looking for ways to improve how the state selects its Supreme Court justices suggested the creation of an "open primary" to have voters select the names that reach the November ballot. Under present law, the most likely winners are those individuals nominated by party conventions to the November ballot for these "nonpartisan" offices. As voters probably know by now, the Michigan Supreme Court is anything but nonpartisan:
The Michigan Legislature finally deals with a major logical mistake in the law. Until now, citizens could gain a license to carry lethal firearms for personal defense, but could NOT carry non-lethal "electro-muscular disruption devices" -- we call them TASERS -- for the same purpose. Bills apparently headed for Gov. Rick Snyder's signature would bring TASERS into the same realm as firearms:
