Bridge is a publication of the Center for Michigan, a 501(c)3 nonprofit and nonpartisan “think-and-do” tank. Bridge’s headquarters is located at 4100 N. Dixboro Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48105, and bureau offices are located in Detroit and Lansing. Our main phone number is 734-769-4625.

In 2020, the Center for Michigan supported the launch of a new nonprofit community news, information and engagement media service for Detroit, BridgeDetroit. BridgeDetroit is a project of the Center for Michigan. It is editorially independent and independently raises funds from members, foundations and sponsors. You can learn about BridgeDetroit here


The Center for Michigan

The Center for Michigan is a “think-and-do” tank founded by former newspaper publisher and University of Michigan Regent Phil Power in early 2006.  A 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, The Center’s objective is to make Michigan a better place by by encouraging greater understanding and involvement in policy issues among the state’s citizens and making sure their voices are regularly heard.  We do this by regularly calling forth citizen views, amplifying those views and projecting them into the halls of power. 

The Center for Michigan is incorporated in Michigan as a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation.  Officers include: Philip H. Power, Chairman; John Bebow, President and CEO; Kathleen K. Power, Vice President; Loyal A. Eldridge III, Secretary; Karla A. Campbell, Treasurer.  Directors include: Paul Hillegonds; Michael Jandernoa; Dr. Glenda D. Price; Douglas Rothwell; Dr. Marilyn Schlack; Paula Cunningham.

We are fortunate to have attracted a group of distinguished Michigan citizens to serve on our Steering Committee.  These include:

Editorial Independence Policy

Bridge Michigan subscribes to standards of editorial independence adopted by the Institute for Nonprofit News:

Our organization retains full authority over editorial content to protect the best journalistic and business interests of our organization. We maintain a firewall between news coverage decisions and sources of all revenue. Acceptance of financial support does not constitute implied or actual endorsement of donors or their products, services or opinions.

We accept donations, grants and sponsorships from individuals and organizations for the general support of our activities, but our news judgments are made independently and not on the basis of donor support.

Our organization may consider donations to support the coverage of particular topics, but our organization maintains editorial control of the coverage. We will cede no right of review or influence of editorial content, nor of unauthorized distribution of editorial content.

Our organization will make public all donors who give a total of $5,000 or more per year. We will accept anonymous donations for general support only if it is clear that sufficient safeguards have been put into place that the expenditure of that donation is made independently by our organization and in compliance with INN's Membership Standards.
